The lesson in the attached word doc challenges students to work with different colored blocks (or some other object of at least five different colors), to rearrange them in the different orders to find the pattern formed by permutations, and ultimately the shortcut and formula. This is a great first-lesson on permutations and will help students appreciate and understand the formula much better.
