Since I teach in California, it’s always good to do a problem about the four-hour drive to Las Vegas (other cities would abviously apply to other states) since the majority of the students have made the drive before with their parents. The students usually know that Barstow and Victorville are on the way to Vegas, so I’ll create a segment from Anaheim to Las Vegas with Victorville, Barstow, and Baker on the segment at their own points. I’ll assign values to some of the distances and have the students calculate the distance from Anaheim to Las Vegas (274 mi) using the Segment Addition Postulate.
