In the lesson linked below, students participate in a problem-solving activity for a system of equations and verify their answers graphically and algebraically. Students will be given a situation in which they will play the role of a NASA Scientist who is sending a data-collecting instrument to collect data from a pair of asteroids that are passing relatively close to the Earth. To do this, they will graph the asteroids’ expected trajectory, and a given NASA flight path. They will use the intersection to decide where to release the data-collecting instrument.
