A simple activity I do when introducing SSS is I have the students grab three different sized items from their backpack (erasers, pens, ID cards, lead holders etc), and I have them move the pieces around to create a triangle with the endpoints of each of the items touching. They are to then trace this triangle onto their paper.
Next I have them try and rearrange the same three items differently to try and make a different triangle, which they’ll find is impossible.
The same can be done when doing SAS, but they only need two items and must use a protractor to create an exact angle for each triangle.
