In the powerpoint lesson attached, the last few slides illustrate how the focus of a parabola pertains to eyeballs and satellite dishes. People who require glasses or corrective lenses have a misaligned focal point in their eyeball, and need glasses to adjust for this.
When it rains, sometimes our cable cuts out because the focal point of the satellite dish gets slightly altered.
Also included in the powerpoint is a youtube clip animating the relationship of a focus and directrix
