What are some creative ways of teaching/explaining this?

The Pythagorean’s came up with this rule for Pythagorean triples, good for any odd number greater than 1.
(m2-1)/2, m, (m2+1)/2
Ex: plug in 5 for m and you get a 3, 4, 5 right triangle.
